37 high school students graduate from Edmonton Police Service's Youth Recruit Academy

Thirty-seven high school students officially graduated Friday from the Edmonton Police Service's July 2026 Youth Recruit Academy, capping an intense week of learning, teamwork, physical challenges and hands-on policing scenarios.

Running from July 27 to July 31, the academy offered students in Grades 10, 11 and 12 a unique window into what it takes to become an EPS recruit constable. Participants learned alongside EPS members, attended police-structured lectures, took part in team-building activities and participated in scenario-based training with EPS units including Canine, Robbery, Air 1, Traffic and Forensics.

The week blended fitness drills and classroom learning with leadership exercises and real-world policing demonstrations. Acting Sergeant Tiffany Rose, the academy coordinator, said the program is designed to build confidence, resilience and understanding of the dedication required of frontline officers. "Each participant stepped up, worked hard and showed the teamwork, determination and leadership that are at the heart of public service," Rose said.

Participants gained exposure to the physical fitness, leadership, accountability and community service demands that define police work. The academy is supported by the Edmonton Police Foundation, whose funding creates pathways for youth interested in policing careers.
