A Glider Crash North of Edmonton Claims One Pilot
TSB launching investigation after aircraft goes down in Lamont County. One fatality reported.
A privately registered Schleicher ASW 20 glider crashed in Lamont County, northeast of Edmonton, shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday, killing the lone pilot on board.
RCMP responded to the scene and declared the pilot dead at the crash site. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has deployed a team to investigate the accident, but authorities have not yet released details about the pilot, pending notification of next-of-kin.
Glider accidents remain relatively rare in Canada, but the TSB treats all aviation incidents as potential learning opportunities. A full investigation will determine what led to the crash.
