Alberta's doctors have voted to ratify a three-year master pay deal with the provincial government, concluding months of negotiations that followed a contentious contract dispute.

Twenty-two percent of eligible Alberta Medical Association members cast ballots, with 76% voting in favour. The deal was reached after mediation, though AMA president Dr. Heidi Fell acknowledged the outcome was not what the organization had originally sought. "It's difficult and constrained bargaining environment," Fell said in a letter to members, adding the agreement does "provide a three-year framework and stability, and came with some meaningful gains for doctors."

Hospitals Minister Adriana LaGrange framed the deal as a balance between the profession's needs and the broader healthcare system. "Fair, competitive compensation while ensuring the health-care system remains sustainable," she said.

Both the government and AMA said they will share specific details of the agreement once it is finalized. The ratification marks the end of a protracted contract cycle.
