Albertans can vote on separation and constitutional change today, Monday, October 19, in a referendum asking 10 separate questions — and voters can answer any number of them, from all 10 down to just one.

Polling stations open at 9 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. If voters are in line at 8 p.m., the station remains open until everyone has voted. Voters must bring government-issued photo ID with their address, or two pieces of ID with at least one showing an address, or fill out an attestation form from an authorized signatory.

The first nine questions cover immigration and constitutional matters. Question 1 asks whether voters support the Alberta government taking increased control over immigration to decrease immigration to sustainable levels and prioritize economic migration. Question 2 asks whether voters support a law limiting provincially-funded health care, education and social services to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and individuals with Alberta-approved immigration status. The remaining seven questions propose additional constitutional changes.

Question 10 is the marquee issue: whether Alberta should remain in Canada or hold a second binding referendum on separation.

Voters already cast 1.3 million ballots through advance voting and special ballots before referendum day. Mail-in ballots had a postal deadline of October 9 and an application deadline of October 16. Those who requested mail-in ballots can check Elections Alberta's website to confirm their ballot was received and counted.

Each question appears on a separate, colour-coded ballot. Voters can request a replacement ballot if they mark an unwanted option or tear the ballot. Voters cannot wear referendum advertising at polling stations, though Alberta flag items and the Maple Leaf are permitted; campaign slogans on clothing are not allowed.
