Portugal, ranked No. 15 in the world, led 23rd-ranked Canada 12–7 at halftime. Takoda McMullin and Brock Gallagher had tries for the Canadians in the loss. It was the seventh meeting between the teams; Canada won the first four matchups, though the last victory came in 2013.
