World No. 1 golfer Nelly Korda will headline the CPKC Women's Open at Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton this week, with the tournament starting Wednesday and running through Sunday.
Korda, 28, won the 2026 U.S. Open in June and the Chevron Championship in April. She's the most followed woman golfer on Instagram with over 1.3 million followers.
Canadian Brooke Henderson, ranked 11th globally, will defend her title after winning last year in Mississauga. Henderson, a Smiths Falls native, has 14 LPGA Tour wins and two major championships to her name.
Other top competitors include World No. 4 Hyo Joo Kim, No. 7 Miyu Yamashita, No. 8 Ruoning Yin, No. 9 Hannah Green, and 2024 Olympic gold medalist Lydia Ko, currently ranked 11th.
The tournament carries a US$2.75 million prize purse, with the winner taking home US$412,500. This is the first time Edmonton has hosted the Canadian Women's Open since 2013, when Ko won at age 16 with a 13-under par score. The city previously hosted the event in 2007 and 1996.
Royal Mayfair, a 104-year-old course designed by Stanley Thompson in the river valley, has faced extraordinary challenges preparing for the event. Superintendent Wade Peckham's crew has dealt with record Edmonton rainfall of 511 millimetres in June and July, leaving sections of the course underwater and forcing continuous bunker repairs. A poplar tree crashed onto the 16th green during a July 26 storm, driving branches a foot deep into the turf. Despite the setbacks, Peckham said the course is ready: "You can see the damage now but you can putt over it."
