Edmonton police officer Const. Tanelle Achtymichuk has been handed a reprimand after pleading guilty to mischief for a 2024 driving incident that sparked multiple 911 calls.

On February 24, 2024, Achtymichuk was spotted driving erratically on Highway 2 while off duty. After being stopped in Mountain View County, she "failed to comply with initial police instructions" and refused to provide a breath sample, according to the five-page disciplinary decision released Tuesday.

She was initially charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle but pleaded guilty in March 2025 to mischief to property. The court issued a conditional discharge with a seven-month probation term and a $100 fine.

The internal disciplinary hearing was overseen by Devin Laforce, EPS's head of police operations — a departure from recent practice, which typically uses a retired RCMP officer as the presiding officer.

Laforce wrote that "conduct that results in a criminal conviction, particularly where it involves the operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that places members of the public at risk, represents a significant departure" from police standards. He noted that Achtymichuk had no prior discipline history since joining EPS in 2020, and stopped short of more serious penalties such as rank reduction or dismissal.
