An Edmonton police officer is facing two counts of sexual assault following allegations from women about an off-duty incident more than two years ago.

Const. Alec Pearce Chomik, 32, was arrested on Aug. 26, 2026, by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), which investigates criminal allegations against Alberta police officers. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice on Oct. 7.

ASIRT began its investigation March 11, 2024, following an off-duty incident the previous day. According to court records, two women allege Chomik sexually assaulted them. ASIRT found "reasonable grounds" to believe an offence had been committed and forwarded the case to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service, which concluded it met its standards for prosecution.

ASIRT recently became part of the newly created Police Review Commission, an independent civilian-led agency that investigates criminal allegations against Alberta police officers and cases where officers have caused serious injury or death.

Chomik is the fourth Edmonton police officer charged with sex offences since 2020. In 2023, Const. Samuel Samson was sentenced to house arrest for groping a female officer in the gym at EPS headquarters. Const. Hunter Robinz received six months in jail last year for using his job to pursue sexual relationships with women, though a count of sexual assault was ultimately withdrawn. Const. Renzo Geronimo was charged last fall after a woman claimed he followed her into her home and groped her; his case remains before the courts.
