The Edmonton Elks erased an 18-point deficit to defeat the Calgary Stampeders 38-28 at McMahon Stadium on Monday, Sept. 8, in a Labour Day comeback that keeps them atop the West Division.
Trailing 14-0 with 10 minutes remaining, Edmonton scored twice in rapid succession. ShunDerrick Powell's three-yard touchdown capped a six-play, 70-yard drive, then Justin Rankin broke free for a 50-yard rushing touchdown with just over 4 minutes left to give the Elks their first lead. Vincent Blanchard converted both touchdowns and added a 52-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, finishing with 5 convert points.
Elmonton's offence also got touchdowns from Kaion Julien-Grant and Austin Mack, while Cole Snyder scored another rushing touchdown. Calgary's scoring came through Jalen Philpot and Clark Barnes on pass plays, plus Quincy Vaughn on a short-yardage run, with Rene Paredes kicking two field goals and three converts.
