Edmonton's getting hammered. Half a month's worth of rain fell in just one week, and restoration companies are buried in calls about flooded basements.

ServiceMaster Restore of Edmonton is handling over 50 jobs a day — up from five to 15 last week. VP Jason Miller says they're getting new calls every five to ten minutes.

The Yellowhead reopened Tuesday after Monday's flooding shut down lanes between 97 Street and 124 Street. The City says road improvements underway should reduce future flooding once construction finishes.

In St. Albert, heavy rain burst a wastewater pipeline Monday, flooding the Red Willow Trail System and the nearby Sturgeon River with sewage. Officials are testing the river for health impacts and telling people to stay away.

Some residents see a bright side. Pat Rolheiser, a St. Albert resident, said the trees needed the soaking. Over 46,000 fans also showed up in the rain Monday at Commonwealth Stadium to watch Canada beat Uzbekistan 2-0 in a FIFA friendly.

If your basement's at risk, pull up the black ball float on your sump pump to test it. If water doesn't go down, the pump needs replacing or plugging in.
