Edmonton firefighters rescued a llama named Runner from a three-metre-deep sinkhole on Saturday morning after the animal fell through an opening too small to pull it out safely.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services coordinated a mini excavator to widen the hole, checked with utilities to ensure digging was safe, and deployed their Technical Rescue Team with specialized rescue slings to lift Runner back to solid ground. The operation succeeded without injury to the animal.
"Our team worked quickly to pivot," EFRS explained, describing the rescue as "a total success."
