Oilers fire head coach Kris Knoblauch after turbulent season
GM Stan Bowman announces coaching change as team searches for successor
The Edmonton Oilers have relieved head coach Kris Knoblauch and assistant coach Mark Stuart of their duties, the organization announced Thursday morning. General manager Stan Bowman said the decision came after a thorough review of the past season, in which the team fell just short of the Stanley Cup. Bowman stressed there was 'no disrespect intended' toward Knoblauch, who had been signed to a three-year extension prior to the 2025-26 season. The Oilers plan a formal search to interview various candidates for the position. Knoblauch's firing marks the 10th coaching change for longest-serving Oiler Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
