The Edmonton Oilers are prepared to offer Bruce Cassidy a significant contract to become their next head coach, according to a report from David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.
Cassidy remains the Oilers' top coaching target even though Vegas, which fired him in March, has not yet granted permission for other teams to interview him. The uncertainty has led many to believe Edmonton might pursue alternatives like Craig Berube or Peter Laviolette, but Cassidy appears to be their priority.
Pagnotta reported the Oilers are willing to offer Cassidy a five-year deal with what could total around $30 million. "He's their guy. He's the guy they want," Pagnotta said on The DFO Rundown.
Most observers believe the Golden Knights will relent on their interview restriction once the playoffs conclude, though they are not obligated to. If Cassidy becomes available, he is expected to land in Edmonton.
