Alberta's minister of hospitals has ordered a halt to the rebranding of Emergency Health Services, reversing a plan announced last month to rename the province's paramedic service ALTA Paramedic Health.

The rebranding would have included new logos on ambulances and uniforms for paramedics across Alberta. The government said the change signalled modernization and accountability, but the move drew sharp criticism from the Health Sciences Association of Alberta, the union representing about 3,500 paramedics.

Union leaders said the rebranding wasted resources that should address critical workforce shortages and working conditions. "How disconnected the leadership is from frontline health-care workers' issues and needs," the union stated.

Hospitals Minister Adriana LaGrange acknowledged the concerns in a statement, saying she shares them. She confirmed no operational funding was used for the initial rebranding work and that no uniforms, ambulances, or equipment were actually changed before the halt.

The minister said EHS will share details about future public engagement once those plans are ready. The decision puts the project on pause pending further consultation with workers and the community.
