Four dead, four hurt after wrong-way crash on Calgary's Stoney Trail
A Mercedes travelling southbound in northbound lanes struck two other vehicles late Sunday, killing the driver and three passengers in a fiery collision.

Four people are dead and four others injured following a three-vehicle wrong-way crash late Sunday on Stoney Trail in southwest Calgary that left two vehicles fully engulfed in flames.
Calgary police say a 2011 Mercedes Benz C350, driven by a 30-year-old man, was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes of Stoney Trail NW near the Tsuut'ina Parkway exit shortly before 11 p.m. when it struck an oncoming 2016 Subaru Impreza. Both vehicles caught fire immediately.
A Chevrolet Equinox operated by a 52-year-old woman then struck the Mercedes. The crash killed the Mercedes' driver and two of his passengers — a woman and a child. The sole occupant of the Subaru was also pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and three youth passengers of the Chevrolet were transported to hospital. One of the youth passengers sustained life-altering, non-life-threatening injuries; the others are being assessed and treated.
Firefighters arrived to find two of the three vehicles fully engulfed. "Crews immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack while simultaneously conducting rapid searches of the involved vehicles and providing emergency care to those who could be reached," the fire department said in a statement. "Despite the rapid actions of first responders, four people were pronounced deceased at the scene."
Police are investigating impairment and excessive speed on the part of the Mercedes driver as factors in the collision. No further details on the investigation have been released.
