A tornado touched down at Dillberry Lake Provincial Campground on Wednesday night, about 300 kilometres southeast of Edmonton near the Saskatchewan boundary.
Wainwright RCMP evacuated the campground and reported that everyone has been accounted for. The tornado triggered an Alberta Emergency Alert at 7:22 p.m. for Wainwright, Provost, and Chauvin. Environment Canada described it as "very dangerous and potentially life-threatening," moving at 30 km/h.
The Northern Tornadoes Project confirmed the Dillberry Lake tornado was one of two that hit the region. A second tornado occurred southwest of Paradise Valley, also southeast of Edmonton. That tornado went through a provincial park, flipping a trailer and causing tree damage. Minor injuries were reported, and the tornado continued southeast into Saskatchewan.
Wainwright RCMP and surrounding detachments responded. The Municipal District of Wainwright asked the general public to avoid the area and allow emergency crews to respond. A damage survey team based in Olds planned to investigate Dillberry Lake on Thursday.
