This week pivots on a simple fact: Sunday and Monday clear out, then the rain moves in hard for the rest of the stretch. Plan accordingly. Start the week catching the spectacle while the weather holds, shift indoor for Wednesday through Friday, and book your dining around the downpours.

Monster Jam roars into Rogers Place Sunday at noon—this is a live motorsport tour that's been running since the early 1990s, so expect the full stunt-driving spectacle, monster trucks tearing up a dirt arena inside your city's hockey barn. It's silly and it works. Sunday's forecast sits mild and dry, so the drive downtown is easy, and it's a solid family draw before the wet settles in.

Weird Al Yankovic lands at Rogers Place on Tuesday evening, September 1st, with Puddles Piddy Party. The accordion parody king has spent decades turning pop hits inside out—if you grew up in the 80s or 90s or just appreciate pop-culture riffing done well, this is a comfortable nostalgia hit. Tuesday stays overcast but dry, so no weather excuse to skip it.

Wednesday brings the first serious rain of the week, but Peaches plays Midway Music Hall at 7 p.m.—an indoor show built for exactly this kind of damp evening. Head downtown, grab dinner beforehand at Sabor Restaurant if you want seafood and something that justifies a slightly longer evening, then settle into the club.

The real event this week is Friday, September 4th, when the city transforms into Infest weekend. The Fan Park at the ICE District hosts INFEST featuring Power Trip, Sacrifice, and guests starting at 6 p.m. This is a three-day pass event anchored across multiple venues, kicking off Friday and running through the weekend. The weather Friday turns to drizzle but stays mild enough for outdoor stages if you layer up—bring a rain jacket and expect crowds. If you want to commit to the whole thing, three-day wristbands run from $216 CAD. This is the week's biggest cultural lift: a proper festival that transforms the Ice District into something beyond the usual hockey-arena vibe.

Lorrie Morgan, the American country singer and daughter of George Morgan, plays River Cree Resort & Casino in Enoch at 9 p.m. Friday night. It's about 14 kilometres west of downtown, a short drive. If country's your lane and you'd rather catch something outside the downtown crush, this is the alternative.

Golden Bears football takes Foote Field Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Regina—if you want to ease into Infest weekend or need something earlier in the evening, the U of A field offers fall football and the weather will be cool but playable.

Beyond the stages, Sip Soda Co. opens on Whyte Avenue this Sunday with 50 free regular drinks for the first customers—worth the detour if you're in Old Strathcona anyway. Andy's Valleyview IGA is also reopening at 142 Street and 91 Avenue after a two-year absence, bringing back a neighbourhood staple with 45 to 50 new jobs.

With most of the week wet, grab drinks somewhere warm. Woodwork is a solid cocktail bar for a pre-show evening, and Pip does brunch well if you want to bank a good meal early in the week before the rain locks in.

Go to Infest Friday if you have the night. It's the only event this week that rewires the whole downtown and gives you a reason to be out in the rain.
