Pierre Lapointe will take on the role of Gringoire in a symphonic reimagining of Notre-Dame de Paris, the beloved musical by Luc Plamondon and Richard Cocciante. The production, featuring the Orchestre FILMharmonique, launches Thursday, April 1, 2027, in Saguenay.

Lapointe is reprising a role created nearly 30 years ago by Bruno Pelletier, and will perform "Le temps des cathédrales," one of the show's most iconic songs. The symphonic arrangements were composed by conductor Simon Leclerc for a previous orchestral revival 25 years ago.

The full cast includes Marc Hervieux as Quasimodo, Marie-Ève Janvier as Esmeralda, Christian Marc Gendron as Frollo, Sam Champagne as Phoebus, Josiane as Fleur-de-Lys, and Gardy Fury as Clopin. After Saguenay, the ensemble will perform in Québec City and Montreal before moving to Ottawa, Trois-Rivières, and Sherbrooke. The tour spans six cities beginning spring 2027.

The original musical has become a cultural touchstone since its 1998 debut, celebrated for its sweeping orchestration and Plamondon's French lyrics adapted from Victor Hugo's novel. This symphonic version brings that grandeur back to Canadian stages with one of the country's most recognizable performers in a signature role.
