The Francos de Montréal music festival begins Friday, transforming the Quartier de spectacles into an open-air celebration of francophone music — Québécois rock, hip hop, electronic, punk and more. The 2026 edition, running June 12 to 20, boasts a lineup of fan favourites alongside fresh discoveries that are the lifeblood of les Francos de Montréal.
The festival's strength is accessibility: most shows are free, and you could walk around and pop into a performance at random and likely enjoy yourself. Anything outside is free.
Tonight's highlights include Kassav', the legendary Antillais group, opening the main Loto-Québec stage officially, and Marie-Mai performing on an outdoor stage — a rare Montreal appearance for the pop star who spends summers on the festival circuit. She remains a charismatic performer capable of electrifying crowds with her innumerable successes.
Over the festival run, watch for standouts including Grand Eugène, the Québécois duo of Melyssa Lemieux and Jeremy Lachance, who dabble in soft dream pop and jazzy indie pop arrangements (Loto-Québec Stage, Saturday, June 13, 6 p.m.); Les Breastfeeders, Montreal legends mixing '60s psych rock, yé-yé, folk rock and shimmering rock 'n' roll (Scène Spotify, Saturday, June 13, 7 p.m.); and Ariane Roy, whose anthemic indie pop with new album Dogue is poised for international stardom (Scène Rogers, Saturday, June 13, 9 p.m.).
The festival has a way of making the unfamiliar feel immediately, viscerally compelling. Come for the free discovery.
