Montreal is hosting the Give a Breath 5K on June 6 at Bois-de-Liesse Park in Saint-Laurent, marking the first time the Canada-wide lung cancer fundraiser has come to the city.

The event is the brainchild of Vanessa Henderson and Jordana Brookman, who traveled to Ottawa last year to participate in the run. After Henderson's own lung cancer diagnosis in 2024, the pair decided to bring the event home rather than making the two-hour drive annually.

"We were like, why do we have to travel two hours? You know, why can't we bring it here?" Brookman said. "So we reached out to the amazing team at Give a Breath, and they were super happy and on board."

The run raises funds and awareness for lung cancer across Canada. Similar editions take place in Vancouver, Halifax, and Toronto. Henderson said the energy and community spirit at the Ottawa event inspired her to launch Montreal's edition. "We're so excited," co-chair Henderson said of the debut.
