Things to do in Montréal this week: August 30–September 5

This is a wet week masquerading as late summer. Sunday brings light rain and a cool 16 to 22 degrees; Monday clears slightly but stays grey; Tuesday through Thursday are the real slog—showers and drizzle, temps hovering in the mid-teens to low twenties. Friday and Saturday dry out but stay cool and damp. Translation: save your patio plans for next week and lean hard into the venues.

The marquee draw is PINK FLOYD : DARK SIDE OF THE MOON at Le Dome in Brossard, running all week from August 30 through September 5. It's an 11-show immersive experience—the kind of production that justifies the short drive south. If you've never sat through Dark Side in a full sensory environment, this is the week to commit a couple of hours and actually go.

Serge Fiori, the former lead of Harmonium, the progressive rock outfit that defined a generation of Quebec rock, is back at Théâtre St. Denis for six performances across the same stretch (August 30–September 5). Fiori's catalogue runs deep; if you caught Harmonium in their original run or grew up on their records, this is the reunion moment locals have been waiting for. Book early—this will sell.

Danny Tenaglia, an American DJ and record producer, takes over Parc Jean-Drapeau on Sunday at 4:00 PM, weather permitting. It's an outdoor gig with the kind of electronic-music pedigree that draws serious dancefloor heads. Sunday's forecast is light rain and cool—bring a jacket, but the afternoon slot means you'll catch whatever sun breaks through.

Wednesday, September 2, splits between two sharp picks. Ilana Glazer, an American stand-up comedian with Emmy and Tony accolades, is at L'Olympia at 7:00 PM—think smart comedy from someone with serious television and film credentials. Later that same night, High on Fire, the Oakland heavy metal band fronted by Matt Pike (who also played guitar for Sleep), takes the stage at Le Foufounes Electriques at 8:00 PM. Both venues are tight and sweaty; both shows will pack. Wednesday's rainy forecast makes them perfect indoor anchors.

Houndmouth, an alternative blues and rock band from Indiana, plays Beanfield Theatre on Thursday, September 3, at 8:00 PM. Thursday's drizzle won't stop the draw if you're in their lane.

Comedy wraps the week: Josh Johnson does four performances at L'Olympia September 4–5, and Mario Tessier plays Théâtre Manuvie in Brossard on Friday, September 4, at 8:00 PM.

Beyond the stages, NDG marks 150 years with Patrimoine en fête, a heritage celebration rolling down Monkland Avenue this weekend with nearly 20 activities, tours, and neighbourhood memory projects. It's a neighbourhood-wide affair; if you live in or near Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, it's worth a walk.

For eating, grab a seat at Pigeon Café & Bar before a Wednesday or Thursday show—breakfast and casual fare that won't empty your wallet.
