Things to do in Montréal this week: September 6–12

This week breaks cleanly: Sunday through Tuesday offer mild, overcast days perfect for patios and parks, then Wednesday and Thursday flip to rain that will keep you inside. Plan accordingly.

Serge Fiori dominates the marquee. The Harmonium frontman—the progressive rock architect behind Quebec's most influential 1970s band—returns to Theatre St. Denis for six performances running September 6 through 12. If you grew up hearing Harmonium on the radio or caught them in the catalogue, this is the closest thing to a reunion the city will get. Fiori shaped an entire generation's ear for art rock in French, and these nights are the cultural event of the week. Shows run across the week; pick a night that fits your schedule, but book soon—this will sell.

Sunday is the week's best outdoor day. Misstress Barbara, the Italian-born Montréal producer and DJ, plays Parc Jean-Drapeau at 4:00 PM—an afternoon slot that lands in the sweet spot before evening dips. It is worth catching for the setting alone if you know her electronic work; if not, it is a good reason to get out to the island on a clear afternoon. That same evening, Charles Brunet brings Roman Frayssinet to L'Olympia at 6:00 PM for two performances; Brunet is worth your time if you are in the mood for French-language comedy.

The rain arrives Wednesday, so move your plans indoors. The Rasmus, a Finnish rock band that formed in the mid-1990s, hits Le Studio TD at 7:30 PM on Wednesday the 9th. If alternative rock in that era lands for you, go. Also Wednesday: Wolves of Glendale—a Los Angeles comedy rock outfit—plays Bar le Ritz PDB at 8:00 PM; they formed in 2022 and deliver what the name promises. Thursday stays wet but warms slightly; Pierre Lapointe, a Canadian singer-songwriter rooted in French chanson, performs at Théâtre Manuvie in Brossard at 8:00 PM—just a short drive south if you want a quieter night away from downtown.

Thursday also brings Vader to Foufounes Electriques at 6:30 PM, and Grouper at Theatre Outremont at 8:00 PM in the Outremont neighbourhood, four kilometres northwest of downtown. Both are solid mid-week live options if the rain does not keep you home.

Beyond the stage, Il Teatro opened this year in the Quartier des Spectacles and has become the standout Italian table in the city—hand-rolled pastas, a wine list that exceeds 3,000 bottles, and Roman ambiance that actually lands. Book a table before a show Sunday or Monday when the weather holds. For a quick breakfast or café stop mid-week when rain has you moving between venues, Pigeon Café & Bar serves solid breakfasts and sits ready for a damp morning. If Friday evening clears—the forecast shows less rain than the middle of the week—Maggie Oakes offers a proper grill menu and cocktails to close the week right.

Friday the 11th brings T.J. Miller, the American stand-up and Deadpool actor, to the Beanfield Theatre at 8:00 PM. It is the week's last major live play before Saturday winds down.
