The South West is the cultural hub this weekend, with the return of Film noir au Canal, running Sundays through August 16 at square Saint-Patrick. Each week at dusk, a classic crime film screens free, preceded by live music and expert discussion. This Sunday features The Big Lebowski (1998) from the Coen Brothers.

Continuing through Sunday, the street festival À l'ouest de la Dame takes over rue Notre-Dame Ouest between Vinet and Atwater with free programming fusing music, dance, gastronomy, and sport. Soccer fans can watch World Cup matches on giant screens Friday and Saturday.

Nearby in Saint-Jérôme, the second Festival Lumière runs through Sunday with theatre, circus, and music performances. The Espace Claude-Henri-Grignon and place de la Gare host free exhibitions and activities. Friday highlights include the Burning BRASs Band revisiting funk and pop classics, plus circus from Kikasse and a Robert Charlebois concert. Saturday brings jazz from Fanfare de l'île, acrobatic humour from the Jerry Show, and Marie-Mai closing the evening. A symphonic Metallica tribute plays the Gilles-Vigneault theatre (ticketed, unlike the rest).

In Montreal proper, the Plaza Saint-Hubert becomes pedestrian this weekend for PlazaPalooza, pairing a large braderie with concerts, DJs, and family entertainment. Nearby at parc des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent, the RU festival runs all weekend with established and emerging artists across music, theatre, storytelling, dance, and circus—including choreography from Compagnie Marie Chouinard (Saturday), Théâtre du Ricochet's public indiscretions (Saturday), and daily performances from Les Contes branchés.

Starting this weekend and running through August 10, the interactive installation Celestia arrives in Blainville on its first Quebec tour stop, with seven sound and light modules activated by public interaction. The artwork is inspired by the Pleiades constellation and will also visit Repentigny, Saint-Hyacinthe, Joliette, and Val-d'Or. Meanwhile, SOLEILS, a digital work by artist Étienne Paquette, remains at Saint-Norbert in Lanaudière, reinterpreting the area's architectural heritage with four interactive interventions open Fridays 8:30 a.m. to noon (excluding construction holidays) and during special events.
