Richard Desjardins will return to the stage at Club Soda on November 6 and 7 as the opening act for the 40th edition of the Coup de Cœur Francophone festival.

The choice of venue carries weight. In April 1991, Desjardins recorded his legendary solo live album there over three nights—a recording that ranks among the best live albums in Québec music history, featuring anthemic versions of Un beau grand slow, Le chant du bum, and Le cœur est un oiseau. The Club Soda has since moved from Avenue du Parc (where Théâtre Fairmount now stands) to the corner of Saint-Laurent and Sainte-Catherine.

Desjardins, a poet who rarely performs in public, hasn't toured since 2012 when he supported his album L'existoire. His recent appearances have often surprised audiences—like two concerts at the Festival de cirque des Îles last July in the Magdalen Islands, where he performed with longtime collaborators Claude Fradette on guitars and Karl Surprenant on bass. This same trio will accompany him in November.

He will also perform at Osisko en Lumière in Rouyn-Noranda on August 8, marking his hometown's 100th anniversary with the Orchestre symphonique régional de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Tickets for the Club Soda shows are on sale now.
