The International Energy Agency's 11th Annual World Energy Efficiency Conference opens Monday at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, drawing experts, senior officials, elected officials, and industry representatives from around the world. Hydro-Québec is a partner of the two-day event.

The conference will explore energy efficiency as a lever for sustainable development and energy resilience, with discussions spanning public policy, technological innovations, and best practices across all economic sectors. Dave Rhéaume, Executive Vice-President of Energy and Regulatory Strategy at Hydro-Québec, said the event showcases local expertise and accelerates concrete solutions. Hydro-Québec has set a goal of achieving efficiency gains of 21 terawatt hours by 2035 as part of its 2035 Action Plan.

According to a June 9 HEC Montréal study commissioned by the Conseil québécois des entreprises en efficacité énergétique (CQ3E), energy efficiency measures are significantly cheaper than new production: savings average 3 cents per kilowatt hour, while generating additional electricity costs 12 cents per kilowatt hour. The energy efficiency ecosystem includes nearly 12,000 companies directly or indirectly involved, generating an estimated $27 billion in revenue and employing nearly 100,000 people.
