Laval father sentenced to life for drowning his two children
Kamaljit Arora will spend at least 25 years in prison after a jury convicted him of first-degree murder in the deaths of his 11-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter.
A Laval man has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years after drowning his two children in their family home in October 2022.
Kamaljit Arora was convicted in March of first-degree murder in the deaths of his 11-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. The jury also found him guilty of attempting to murder his eldest daughter and of strangling his wife, Rama Rani Arora, who survived the attack.
Superior Court Justice Alexandre Bien-Aimé Bastien imposed automatic life sentences for the first-degree murder counts. Earlier this week, he sentenced Arora to eight years for the attempted murder of his daughter and one year for the attack on his wife. Those sentences will be served concurrently, meaning Arora can apply for parole after 25 years despite the multiple convictions.
The case drew significant attention as one of the most serious crimes prosecuted in the region in recent years.
