Laval hospital must fix emergency overflow area by October 23, tribunal orders

The Union of Nurses, Respiratory Therapists and Auxiliary Nurses of Laval won a case at the Administrative Labour Tribunal over conditions in the emergency overflow unit at Cité-de-la-Santé hospital in Laval.
The union, affiliated with the CSQ, had contested five intervention reports citing the layout of the emergency area, lack of space to work and move around safely, and risks to workers. The tribunal declared that the Integrated Health and Social Services Centre of Laval (CISSS) violated the Act respecting occupational health and safety and ordered the centre to "take the necessary measures to protect the health, safety and integrity of workers in the area" of the emergency unit. The CISSS has until October 23 to correct the situation.
The ruling comes after earlier public coverage documented ongoing pressures in the same emergency space.
