A barbershop in Laval's Pont-Viau neighbourhood caught fire early Monday morning in what police believe was deliberately set.
Laval police responded to a 911 call around 4 a.m. reporting a blaze at a commercial building on De la Concorde Boulevard East. The fire damaged the barbershop on the ground floor. As a precaution, tenants living in apartments above the business were evacuated while emergency crews worked the scene. No injuries were reported.
Witnesses told police they saw someone fleeing the area before authorities arrived. Investigators determined the fire was likely deliberately set.
A 21-year-old woman believed to be connected to the incident was arrested nearby and is expected to be questioned by investigators later Monday as police work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
The investigation is ongoing.
