Montreal restaurant on Verdun Street hit by arson; suspect threw incendiary device

Montreal police are investigating an arson at a restaurant on Verdun Street near Second Avenue in Verdun borough after a citizen alerted officers around 2:30 a.m. on September 20, 2026.
At least one suspect allegedly threw an incendiary device at the restaurant, causing a small fire inside the business. Officers extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher before the Montreal Fire Department arrived. The damage is believed to be minor, and no injuries were reported.
Apartments above the restaurant were evacuated as a precaution, and residents were later allowed to return to their homes. Witnesses were interviewed as part of the investigation.
The SPVM's arson unit took over the case. No arrests had been made at the time of reporting.
This is the second suspected arson targeting a Montreal business in recent weeks. In late August, police investigated a suspected arson at a Villeray beauty salon. Earlier that month, the SPVM investigated a possible arson at kosher restaurant Nöam in Côte-des-Neiges.
The restaurant's name has not been released. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the SPVM.
