Montreal police are investigating a vehicle fire in Dollard-des-Ormeaux Friday night as suspected arson after finding evidence the blaze was deliberately set.

The fire occurred around 10 p.m. on Papillon Street near Hyman Street, where a car was parked in front of a residence. Montreal firefighters were already at the scene when police arrived and had controlled the blaze before investigators got there. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle is considered a total loss.

No incendiary materials were found at the scene, but police said evidence suggested the fire was criminal. "However, there were some indications that led us to believe it was criminal," said police spokesperson Raphael Bergeron to CTV. The vehicle was towed for analysis by investigators, and surveillance footage from nearby cameras is expected to be reviewed.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified. The investigation is ongoing.

This adds to a pattern of suspicious vehicle fires under investigation across the region. Montreal police investigated a similar fire in Montreal North in June 2026, and suspicious vehicle fires were under investigation in Longueuil and Lanaudière in June 2026.
