A 22-year-old man was shot in an alley near Crémazie Boulevard West in Montreal's Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough around 11:00 p.m. Friday night in what police are treating as an attempted murder.
The victim was hospitalized with injuries to the upper body that are not considered life-threatening. Officers found several shell casings and projectile impacts at the scene, confirming the shooting, according to SPVM spokesperson Officer Manuel Couture. Suspects fled the scene.
About 45 minutes after the shooting, firefighters responded to a van fire on Anse à l'Orme road in Senneville on the west end of the Montreal island. The Montreal Fire Department reported that incendiary materials were used in the fire, which caused no injuries. The SPVM's arson unit is now investigating whether the van fire is connected to the attempted murder.
No arrests have been made as of the report. Police have not identified the shooting victim or any suspects.
