Mobile photo radar now active on Highway 30 westbound at Varennes construction zone

Mobile photo radar surveillance is now active on Highway 30 westbound above Butte-aux-Renards Road and Picardie Rise in Varennes, according to the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
The radar deployment was prompted by observed speeding violations outside peak hours during overpass bridge repairs. The speed limit in the work zone is 70 km/h at all times. Advance warning signage using an orange-background panel with the photo radar pictogram has been installed upstream of the site.
When a photo radar infraction is detected in a work zone, no demerit points are applied to the vehicle owner's record, but the fine amount is doubled compared to standard road infractions. Road users can consult the list of work zones targeted by photo radar on Quebec 511.
The overpass repairs involve two bridges d'étagement—overhead structures—on Highway 30. The ministry did not announce a completion date for the repair work.
