Two people died in a residential fire in Montreal's St-Michel district on Saturday morning, June 13.
The blaze started in a second-floor apartment of a building on 42nd Street near 24th Avenue before spreading to the third floor. Two other occupants were injured and transported to hospital after jumping from the second floor to escape the flames.
More than 60 firefighters responded and worked several hours to bring the fire under control. By approximately 9 a.m., the situation was contained.
The cause remains under investigation. The case has been transferred to Montreal Police, though firefighters reported no indications of criminal activity. The Canadian Red Cross deployed personnel to assist residents displaced by the fire. Reports from the scene indicate the dwelling may have been occupied by a family of two adults and two children.
