Mackay Centre and Philip E. Layton school in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce closed Tuesday, October 13 after a water leak from burst pipes affected parts of both buildings, the English Montreal School Board announced.

Only portions of the buildings were damaged by the leak. The school board directed students to return home by bus and said damages are still being assessed.

"We will know later if the building is operational," EMSB spokesperson Mike Cohen said. The board did not specify how long the closures will last or provide an estimate of repair timelines as of Tuesday morning's announcement.
