Two of Montreal's main cross-river routes are shutting down this weekend, disrupting traffic to airports and the South Shore.
Starting Saturday at 3 a.m. through Monday at 5 a.m., major ramp closures will block traffic on the Honouré-Mercier Bridge. The ramp from Route 132 west (coming from La Prairie) to Route 138 east will close, with detours via A-30 west, exit 38, and the bridge's reversible lanes. The ramp from Route 138 west (from the bridge) to Route 138 west (toward Châteauguay) will also close, with detours via Route 132 east and A-30 west.
Overall bridge traffic will run in one lane per direction over the weekend through Monday. In addition, the bridge will operate in contraflow toward Montreal (aval side) with 1 lane each direction until Monday, August 3 at 5 a.m. The City warns this "could occasion congestion," particularly for travelers heading to Pierre-Trudeau Airport.
Starting Monday, July 27, the east span of Victoria Bridge (the side closer to Samuel-De Champlain) will close through Thursday, September 10. Traffic will shift to the single westbound span (the Jacques-Cartier side) on a set schedule: 2 lanes toward Montreal from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 2 lanes toward the South Shore from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Heavy vehicles remain banned on Victoria Bridge at all times.
The City recommends consulting Québec 511 before traveling and downloading the app for real-time notifications. Transit adjustments include extended hours on the Route 138 reserved bus lane (5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily) and modified bus schedules for the upper South Shore and Southwest sectors.
