Montreal ranks sixth globally for friendly customer service, according to a new ranking by UK-based price comparison site MoneySuperMarket. The city is the only Canadian entry on the list, with 56.8 per cent of leisure and hospitality reviews mentioning friendly staff and service.

The ranking analyzed over 100,000 reviews across 107 cities worldwide, examining the language reviewers used to describe their experiences. MoneySuperMarket found that customer service quality varies significantly by location, with friendliness becoming a measurable competitive factor for businesses.

Edinburgh, Scotland topped the list at 59 per cent, followed by Hanoi, Vietnam at 58.6 per cent, and Liverpool at 58.3 per cent. Montreal sits between Dublin, Ireland (fifth) and Vienna, Austria (seventh).

The city's reputation for hospitality aligns with its food culture. Montreal is known for iconic meals like smoked meat sandwiches and poutine, drawing food enthusiasts who value the pairing of excellent service with delicious food. This isn't Montreal's first appearance on international rankings — in 2024, Time Out named one Montreal neighbourhood among the world's coolest, again making it the only Canadian spot on that list.
