The Quebec health ministry (MAPAQ), working with Montreal's food inspection division and the business itself, is warning the public not to consume Épices 4 Saisons prepared and sold by Marché goûté 4 saisons inc. at 5563 boulevard Léger in Montreal.
The product, sold in a transparent plastic bottle in refrigerated conditions until July 15, 2026, has not been prepared and packaged safely and could favour the growth of Clostridium botulinum bacteria.
No cases of illness have been reported to MAPAQ so far. However, foods contaminated by botulism toxin can cause paralysis of the face, unresponsive pupils, difficulty swallowing, drooping eyelids, vision and speech problems. In severe cases, the illness can be fatal. The product shows no signs of spoilage or suspicious odour but may still be dangerous.
People who have the product in their possession are advised not to consume it and to contact a healthcare professional if they experience any symptoms after consumption. The business has voluntarily recalled the product. Questions can be directed to smsaia@mapaq.gouv.qc.ca.
