30,000 power banks sold at Winners and HomeSense recalled over fire hazard

Health Canada has issued a recall for 30,000 XO Poppy 5000 mAh power banks sold across Canada at Winners, HomeSense, and Marshalls between May 2024 and March 2026.

The lithium-ion batteries in these power banks can overheat and melt at the charging port while plugged in, creating both a fire and burn risk. As of August 11, the company had not received any reports of incidents or injuries tied to the product in Canada, but the recall was issued as a precaution.

The power banks were manufactured in Vietnam and came in a range of colours and prints, bundled with a USB-C charging cable. To determine if you have one of the affected units, check the model number printed on the device itself. Thirty model numbers are affected, including PBK5M-DB1, PBK5M-F10, and various PY-PBK5M variants.

Health Canada is instructing anyone with one of these power banks to stop using it immediately and bring it back to any Winners, HomeSense, or Marshalls location for a refund. No receipt is required, as this is a manufacturer-driven recall. Under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, recalled products cannot legally be redistributed, resold, or given away in Canada.
