The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has pulled over 40 grocery items off Quebec shelves since the start of August, with hazards ranging from listeria contamination to undeclared allergens and glass fragments.
Compliments Smashed 100% Chicken Burgers (680 g, 8 x 85 g) faced an expanded recall on August 31 covering all batches where egg isn't listed on the label, after an initial recall of a single lot on August 6. The product is distributed nationally by Leadbetter Foods Inc. and carries a Class 2 designation, meaning moderate risk, though it can trigger serious reactions in people with egg allergies.
Two corn dog products — Compliments brand (1.35 kg) and Selection brand Chicken and Pork (1.5 kg), both with code MA 2027 AU 03, lot 21526 — may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Both were distributed to Quebec by O Mets Chinois.
Allo Simonne Pistachio Matcha and Almond Cardamom spreads (220 g jars, codes 12-104-26 and 7-104-26, best-by October 2027) may contain pieces of glass. The spreads were sold online and in British Columbia and Quebec.
Kim Phat Seafood Medley (500 g, sold in Quebec, UPC 6 28790 00196 2, production date 25/08/16) carries a Class 1 designation — the agency's most serious category — due to undeclared egg, fish, soy, and wheat. No reactions have been reported yet, but exposure could mean a serious or life-threatening reaction for anyone with related allergies or celiac disease.
Wu Xian Zhai Vegetarian Beef in Five Spices and Numb & Spicy flavours, plus two varieties of Preserved Beancurd (all 108 g), carry Class 1 designation for undeclared wheat. These were distributed in Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.
Alfa croissant varieties sold at Costco — cocoa cream, vanilla cream, and strawberry jam with vanilla cream (4 x 6 x 75 g) — may contain mould.
