The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued multiple recalls for food products sold in Quebec since June, affecting everything from shellfish to pantry staples.

Gummy Gainz protein candy represents the most serious risk. On July 4, the CFIA declared a national Class 1 recall — the highest severity — for 17 products across multiple flavours and package sizes sold online. The candy contains undeclared milk, which can trigger severe or fatal allergic reactions in those with milk intolerance. One allergic reaction has already been reported. All affected packages lack milk on the label; consumers should not eat them and should discard or return them immediately.

On June 30, the CFIA recalled Five Star Shellfish oysters sold in Quebec, Ontario and Nova Scotia over possible salmonella contamination. The affected varieties are Malpeque (in 25-count, 100-count and 2.5-pound formats) and Conway Pearls, Blackberry and Gooseberry (100-count), all harvested June 22 from Prince Edward Island. Check the harvest and shipping dates on the label rather than lot codes, as several lots lack UPC codes. No illnesses have been reported.

Also on June 30, pure maple syrup from two Quebec and Ontario brands — 9227-8712 Québec Inc. and L'Érabeille, both in 540-millilitre bottles — was recalled for spoilage and container defects. It's a Class 3 recall, the least severe level, but the syrup should not be consumed.

Salem Foods ground spices and spice blends prompted a June 26 Class 1 recall after wheat, sesame and mustard appeared without label warnings. Three products are affected: Spice Biscuits (200g), ground cardamom (180g) and spearmint (120g). No reactions have been reported. This is Salem Foods' second recall in recent weeks for similar allergen issues.

Ola-Ola pounded yam (IYANINSTANT) in the 1.815-kilogram size, sold online across Canada, was recalled June 26 for undeclared milk. The UPC is 6 50655 49687 3; no lot code is exempt. A consumer complaint triggered the Class 1 recall; no reactions have been reported.
