PQ leads Quebec election race with 29%, Liberals and CAQ far behind

The Parti Québécois holds a commanding lead in the race for Quebec's Oct. 5 provincial election, with 29 percent support among voters, according to a Léger poll conducted Aug. 28–31.
The CAQ trails at 24 percent, the Quebec Liberal Party at 22 percent, the Conservative Party of Quebec at 15 percent, and Québec Solidaire at 10 percent. The PQ's lead translates to a projected 49 seats under the Qc125 model, falling well short of the 64 seats needed to form a majority government.
For the PQ to secure a majority, Jean-Marc Léger, president of Léger, said the party would need at least 33 percent support — a threshold it has not yet reached. The poll surveyed 1,008 Quebec residents aged 18 or older who are eligible to vote.
