Quebec voters have six days left to make their choice for October 5 election

Voters have six days until Quebec's provincial election on October 5, with advance polls having closed Monday evening after 900,000 people cast early ballots across the province.

Latest polling shows dramatic shifts in the race. A Léger survey places the CAQ in fourth place, while projections from Route127.ca suggest the CAQ could win zero seats in the national assembly. The PQ has moved into majority-government territory according to the same projections.

CAQ Leader Christine Fréchette told reporters on the campaign trail Monday she remains confident: "We have a very strong team and I'm pretty confident that we will convince Quebecers to support us and vote for us."

However, controversy has dogged the CAQ's final stretch. A party staff member encouraged journalists to write about a publication from a fringe American think tank that promoted destabilizing Canada by supporting separatist parties. Fréchette said the initiative was undertaken without her knowledge and blamed members of her own party for trying to get journalists to pursue the story about foreign interference. "I think it should be discussed with me first, so this is the change that we brought," she told reporters.

Charles Milliard, the Liberal Leader, said the CAQ "disqualified itself" over the weekend and argued his party is the best option for Quebecers who want to avoid another referendum debate. "They need to hear me out, they need to join us, and make sure that we can form the government in eight days," Milliard said. Latest projections suggest the Liberals remain solidly in second place.

PQ Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon campaigned in the Eastern Townships. Talk of possible U.S. interference in the election continued into the final week of the campaign, with rivals criticizing Fréchette's claims that American officials might attempt to support the PQ to weaken Canada.
