A Montreal police officer who worked out of Station 39 in Montreal North has been reassigned to administrative duties while investigators look into allegations of malfeasance and obstruction of justice.
The allegation is that the officer destroyed video evidence stored on the phone of a domestic violence victim during an investigation in 2025. Radio-Canada first reported the destroyed-evidence allegation. The SPVM announced the reassignment in a news release Thursday. Under the terms, the officer is on administrative duties with no public contact for the duration of the investigation.
The matter came to light during an investigation into Station 39 itself. HighOnCity reported in June that Montreal police had dismantled a team at Station 39 over racism allegations, and in August that a fourth officer from the station had been suspended over racial profiling allegations. Police say the report originated from within the organization.
Montreal police Chief Fady Dagher is set to hold a press conference Friday at 1 p.m. Police say they are in communication with the DPCP, Quebec's Crown prosecutor's office, to determine next steps. The officer's name has not been released, and the SPVM has not confirmed the nature or outcome of the video deletion. It has not said whether charges have been laid.
