Montreal police officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane was killed Monday while responding to an active shooter incident in Côte-des-Neiges, the SPVM confirmed Tuesday. Benredouane, 34, had served as an officer since 2021.
A civilian, identified as Michael Moshe Mizrahi, was also killed in the shooting. The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs confirmed Mizrahi was a member of Montreal's Jewish community.
The SPVM said Benredouane was protecting the population when he responded to the incident. "His sense of duty, dedication and professionalism will forever be remembered," the service said in a statement.
Flags at half-mast have been raised at SPVM headquarters, City Hall, and the National Assembly of Quebec.
