Quebec police services from the South Shore and North Shore gathered Thursday at SPVM Station 26 to honor Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, the 34-year-old officer killed in a shootout Monday in Côte-des-Neiges.
Officers arrived with lights flashing and sirens on, then exited their vehicles to lay flowers at the station where Benredouane worked. The procession drew police from Roussillon, L'Assomption, and St-Sulpice, among other services across the region.
"We police officers are like one big family; we support each other," said Vicky Coté, media officer for the Roussillon police department. "When something like this happens, we all feel personally affected. That's why it was important for us to come and support our fellow police officers in Montreal."
The Monday shooting also killed civilian Michel Mizrahi, 68, and the assailant from Alberta. A funeral for Benredouane was held Wednesday, June 24, at the Islamic Centre of Quebec mosque in Saint-Laurent. A civic ceremony is being organized by the SPVM.
