Thousands of police officers march in solemn procession honouring fallen Montreal officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane
A two-hour memorial ceremony at the Bell Centre followed the morning procession down René-Lévesque Boulevard on Tuesday, July 7.

Thousands of police officers from across Canada marched through downtown Montreal on Tuesday, July 7, in a solemn procession honouring SPVM officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, who was killed in a shootout in Côte-des-Neiges on June 22.
The procession left SPVM headquarters on Saint-Urbain Street at 10 a.m. and made its way along René-Lévesque Boulevard to the Bell Centre, where a two-hour commemorative ceremony began at 12:30 p.m. The Royal Canadian Air Force flew over downtown at around 10:15 a.m., and the Casino de Montréal, the Biosphere, and the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge were specially illuminated in tribute.
Benredouane, 34, had served as an SPVM officer since 2021. He was the father of a young child with a second on the way — the first Montreal police officer killed in the line of duty since 2002. His funeral was held at the Islamic Centre of Quebec mosque in Saint-Laurent on June 24, and he was buried in Laval.
Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette, Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière, and Chantal Rouleau, Quebec minister responsible for the Montreal region, were in attendance. The procession and ceremony were livestreamed on the SPVM's YouTube channel.
