Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, the 34-year-old Montreal police officer killed Monday in a shooting in Côte-des-Neiges, leaves behind a young child and a pregnant wife, according to Montreal Police Brotherhood president Yves Francoeur.

Benredouane's death marked the first police officer killed in the line of duty in Montreal since 2002. He had been an SPVM officer since 2021.

Officers were called to the area near the Hilton Hotel at Trans Island and De Courtrai avenues around 11:35 a.m. Monday after reports of a gun muzzle sticking out of a window. Officers at street level came under fire when they arrived on scene.
