Threats against Quebec MNAs jump 34 percent in one year
Quebec's National Assembly handled 668 threat files in 2025-26, nearly double the previous year, with 296 deemed serious by police.
The number of threats against members of Quebec's National Assembly surged dramatically over the past year, raising concerns about political safety.
Security handled 668 threat files in 2025-26 compared to 498 the previous year—a 34 percent increase—according to data revealed by National Assembly president Nathalie Roy. Of those 668 files, just under half (296) were deemed serious by police, a 27 percent jump from the prior year.
The spike comes as political tensions remain high across the province, with debates over sovereignty and federal-provincial relations dominating the agenda ahead of Quebec's October election.
