The Iron Cabaret's "Legends" is a "Dungeons and Dragons" romp that brings mythology to life through pole, hoops, silks, and handstand canes. Undulating gods and goddesses invite worship on stage, legs squeezing and spreading as highly skilled performers embody desire. For Canadiana lovers, there's even a devil suspended in a steel canoe.
Masters of ceremony Samantha and Martin Fransham keep the D&D theme alive between performances, rolling a watermelon-sized 20-sided die for charisma, luck, and perception. Their welcoming and often goofy natures invite the audience to relax and enjoy.
The Iron Cabaret is a body-positive business that pays all its performers. The Franshams have now raised $33,000 for charity and worthy causes, awarding fifty-nine $200 artist bursaries and three $250 ones. They keep performances and fundraising money within the local community, supporting Ottawa artists and businesses.
Performances highlight Elly Oop's elf sorcerer, La Rin's fox spirit, and Roman & Zenzimon's dual-hoop duel to the death—all eyes locked on the action.
"Legends" runs June 20, 25, 26, and 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gladstone Theatre. The show runs approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes with an intermission. Tickets range from $45 to $75 and are recommended for 18+.
