Country music star Ella Langley drew an estimated 40,000 people to her Bluesfest performance on July 17, marking the biggest crowd of this year's festival at LeBreton Flats Park. The show was one of the rare occasions a Bluesfest performance has sold out in advance.
The 27-year-old Alabama native described herself as a small-town girl with a big dream and opened with "Dandelion," segueing into upbeat rockers like "I Gotta Quit," "Bottom of Your Boots" and a cover of Gretchen Wilson's "Here For The Party." She also performed emotional ballads including "You and Me Time," "Broken" and "Somethin' Simple."
Langley spoke to the massive audience about hard work and following your calling. "I just always believed it was my calling," she said. "If you feel called to do something in your life, do it. It's gonna be hard but it pays off."
Throughout the packed site, spirits were high, though security managed frequent rowdiness at beer tents and in crowd aisles. The performance bridged a stark genre shift — Quebec prog-rock duo Angine de Poitrine performed before Langley, followed by Sheryl Crow, whose greatest-hits set reminded crowds of songs like "My Favourite Mistake," "If It Makes You Happy" and "All I Wanna Do."
